watch out for your perspective on 277 and 284, but great job on your Alias and interior sketches. Like them a lot!

Hey, your Bugatti looks very nice, I like the way its facets give the car a radical sport spirit. The rear really has a Bugatti style ! By the way, I am searching a transportation design internship in San Francisco, but it’s very hard to find out. Especially because I’m far, I live France. Would you have some tips for helping me? Thanks in advance.

Hey Jon! How’s your life in Germany? Are you fluent with the language? I bet you are having so much fun out there.

Whoa. Been on here for a while, but had not seen your stuff yet. Sharp sharp! You are leaning toward a unique aesthetic with the Bugatti that I really like and aim for, but do not see much of... A kind of "floating elements" look. I started doing that in school, and still like it a lot. Keep it up! Cheers.

Thanks, Dave! Wait- you're the genius that did all those Model T sketches that I have compiled in my hard drive?! Those pieces have been an inspiration to me..
Don't forget about proportions! (for a miata- convey FR more in the sketches..)
Nice front end. Lamps are a bit too large for my taste, but i like the hood/ mouth area. good stuff.
Here's your walkaround, B- it's not quite presentation quality- more of an evaluation tool- and it's a bit quick.. But here is is, since you asked for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36XRFMeIn7E
Brian- Thank you for your thoughts. I greatly appreciate the amount of detail you went into, as well as the completeness in description of your thought process. SO much more constructive than a simple "i like it.." ha. As far as your comments go, I completely agree. First- the rear quarter- I feel the silhouette and shape could have been more advanced, considering the more conservative nature compared to the front. Many have expressed this concern, and I feel it to be my next area of improvement. Furthermore, I agree with you that my taillamps are too small in relation to the rear. They simply became too small/ thin/ frail. Last year when I had the luck of interning at Design Center Potsdam, I spent 10 months refining ONE car proposal- with 10 hours a day not uncommon. In the end, I was still wanting to make small tweaks to details and surfaces to further advance the design. Further, I had professional modelers to help in this process; at times orchestrating a small team of 4 very skilled professionals, with the direction of 4 extremely experienced chiefs. Compare this scenario with this project (1 month) and you will begin to see the degree of my satisfaction with this project. Thanks again, Brian.
I like the profile- I think the side view is more promising than the graphics on the front/ rear. (a good thing considering graphical elements are easily changed- proportion and shape are not) My favorite aspect of this car? It reminds me of the 2000GT..
Good progression here. The profile looks great- definitely improved this proposal. Would be great to see the packaging work in 3d..
Aurel, you're right- the rear sketch has an uncanny resemblance to the CS's character- which is interesting that you point out, because I never really considered that car in my sketching. I suppose it's bold character has subconsciously burned a permanent impression in my design vocabulary... And no, my images don't open for me either.. I wonder why that is.. Thank you again, to everyone that gave me input on this project. It's been great to see everyone's different opinion (love/hate the front, etc) - I'm a big believer that good design is always met with confusion and discomfort at first... (z4, anyone?)
Aurel, somehow I keep coming back to look at your delicious work. I should let you know, by the way, that I've been a fan of your style since I started collecting your work on CDN. I admire your technique and subtle color sensitivity.. I'm linking my blog to yours- hope you don't mind... And for the front- I really like the idea of hidden lamps- like a new interpretation of pop-up headlamps.. From a design standpoint, I would push them further apart to visually widen the vehicle.
Sangho, you still have 2 terms left at ACCD? You're going to be a monster when you graduate.. Good thing I'm not competing with you for jobs! haha. I have to admit that this project has grown on me in the past couple weeks. I agree with Aurel's previous comment regarding influences in your design, whether they be conscious or not. I think this car has potential- though some elements such as the rear wing (as previously mentioned by others) don't quite work with the overall theme. I am anxious to see you take this design further than sketch renderings- fitting this design on a reasonable package would be a very interesting proposal- though keeping the themes and character intact will be difficult, I am extremely anxious to see how you translate these themes into 3d.. Congratulations, man. Nice stuff.
Hey Nikola- I have a suggestion for you. You mentioned in your post that this is a last minute entry and that you apologize for some aspects. You may be an amateur, but if you aspire to be a professional, "ACT AS IF.." Never project a negative image about your work to a client, and never apologize for shortcomings. Do the best work you can do, and be proud that you did. Good job posting your work for others to criticize- that's how you improve..
I personally see a lot of Alfa Romeo in this proposal- from the proportions to the attitude, and the overall personality.. (could just imagine the triangualr grille in there...)
Thanks, guys.. I appreciate all the positive comments... I wanted to infuse classic proportion with high-tech in the details. The development of the chassis and door openings hopefully will help convey that message- I've included a screenshot of the current logistics and chassis development.. It's 5:17AM and I can't sleep because the gears are turning...
Ok, last thing- there's a mistake in your reference- the P-51D listed in the image is actually a P-51B. (sorry, had to share my .02)
What?! No steering rack/ column/or sway bars in the cutaway?! And no visible turbo or IC? Bah-humbug! (kidding) Really though, great sketches! Lots of fun eyecandy to look at. The overall proportions are strangely uncomfortable for me though... And I see no R8 in it whatsoever.. (a good thing since everyone seems to think it looks too R8)
Cool attitude.. Composed, confident, and hunkered down.. Proportionally (for a muscle car), it could be more FR- longer, horizontal hood and way more DTA ratio..
The top left ideation sketch somehow shows a more unique personality than the final direction- Very brutal and very American. I'd love to see that sketch taken further.
I feel that the two iterations are completely different vehicles; the first iteration has promising potential- the mid-engined, low-slung, F1 inspired speedform with minimal fairings that reach to intersect the fuselage. The second concept comes across as a front-engined, brutish hot-rod that isn't quite sure if it wants to be a sedan.. The wishbone theme below the A pillar seems unresolved and busy, imho. Both iterations seem like they could be wider- expecially in the rear track.
Haha.. thanks, guys.. This sneak peak was an experiment- i'll post the actual sketches later today.. Yeah, always build to theoreticals! radii last!
Awesome. Form-oriented sculptural quality instead of gimmicky graphics. Love it.
thanks for the kind words, guys.. I appreciate the positive feedback! And yeah, that's my (Fix Daily) rotary track whore..
I think electric cars are unpopular because the components are impractical, heavy, expensive, and produce too little range. The Tesla roadster has a 1000lb battery that only lets it travel 200 or so miles..
Five things come to mind : 1 For this type of package, I'd like to see more sculpture in terms of plan view. 2 The rear may benefit from a slightly longer overhang, and more plan shape. 3 I would feel more comfortable with slightly more meat above the wheel arches- especially the rears. 4 The glass is too round for my tastes. 5 Is that jacqueline's laptop?
Thanks for the kind words. I forgot to include the sketch that shows the functions of the spine- Rollover protection, structural rigidity, and surf/snowboard rack..
