Barash, Igor - Mechanical Engineering Apprentice
Igor_profile

Igor's love for all things mechanical developed at an early age, and
can likely be attributed to growing up in a family of engineers. By the age of
4, he was helping his grandfather work on his 1959 GAZ-21 Volga, which
was the only car in the family for over 30 years. After leaving Russia and
moving to the United States with his family, he was raised in Scottsdale,
Arizona. In high school he was an avid participant in the Science Olympiad
team, participating in such projects as developing a Rube Goldberg device
and a trebuchet with an accuracy of 6" at a range of 50 yards. He is currently
earning his BS in mechanical engineering at ASU, where he is the captain
of the 2010-2011 SAE Baja Team, and was previously chief engineer
for the 2009-2010 team, which placed well in national competition this
year. Previously, Igor held an internship at ESA Corp., a local engineering
analysis and R&D company where he was involved in the design and
testing of innovative nonlethal vehicle and personnel arresting devices. He
spends much of his free time exploring the back roads and 4x4 trails of the
desert southwest in his Toyota Tacoma and working on his 280zx, which is
currently undergoing an engine and transmission swap. Igor currently lives
in Tempe, Arizona.
Conroy, Donald - Mechanical Engineering Apprentice
dj_profile

D.J. is a student at the University of Connecticut where he is studying
mechanical engineering. His obsession with cars started at a young age,
building cars out of Kinects and Legos. He bought his first car, a '95 Mustang,
with money he made caddying at the Winchester Country Club while he still only
had his learner's permit. This summer he drove it from Boston to Phoenix to join
the team.
D.J. had his first real hands on experience with cars in his automotive
technology class taught by Mr. Rizzo while he was attending Arlington High
School. During his first semester at UConn, he joined the Formula SAE team
(www.uconnracing.com) and became a core member. This past year he took on
a leadership role as the team's suspension captain, the club's secretary and will
be team captain this year. D.J. also works at UConn's mechanical engineering
machine shop.
Domolky, John - Director of Strategic Partnerships

John has returned to Local Motors for the summer after leaving his role as Director of Strategic Partnerships to pursue his degree in Management at Boston University. John is in charge of the creation and management of strategic partnerships between Local Motors and many of the after-market vendors and SEMA members. John drives his E60 BMW M5 the way it was designed to be driven, but he also owns Rally Fighter #3 and can't wait for his build date to come this year. John completed the MCC Build School as well as the BMW M Racing School. He is currently a sophomore at Boston University, and previously he graduated from Tabor Academy and the Fay School.
Ferreira, Ariel - PR Manager and Community Evangelist

Ari is passionate about people and design. She earned her BBA in International Business, Management and Marketing from Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. During school she worked with Experience Marketing managing promotional events for major auto manufacturers. She also worked with NU's Admissions Department supporting the school counselors as well as prospective college students. Later, she moved to Chicago to experience the city and work in the design field. She interned and later worked in marketing and sales of Lana Jewelry where Ari helped with sponsored events and trunk shows, as well as creating an overall marketing strategy.

In each of these past experiences Ari has sought out opportunities to interact directly with community and customers and create a positive impact. Local Motors is the ultimate opportunity as it is focused on Ari's passions: people and design. Though Ari did not think she would return to the automotive industry, she is incredibly excited the opportunity has presented itself. Since this industry is so ready for change, Local Motors is truly the platform for us to reach out to the community and affect the greatest positive changes.
Francois, Aurel - Community Liaison & Design

Aurel has grown up with the passion for cars and drawing. The story
really began when in his early teenage years he realized some people
create real cars out of a blank sheets of paper. At a certain point, the
dream of becoming one of these designers turned into a goal. The 5 years
he spent at the Institut Superieur de Design (France) and the
internships allowed him to learn more about the design process and its
interaction with marketing, production and the auto industry at large.

After graduating with his Masters in Transportation Design, Aurel learned about Local Motors. He became one of the earliest LM community members
and he finally joined the LM team a few months later.

Aurel's understanding of the differences between European and American environments and automotive history reinforced his conviction: that culture has to play a main role in any design approach.

Feel free to get in touch with him through his Local Motors profile: http://www.local-motors.com/vprofile.php?u=37
Ostebo, Karin - Accounting, Office Manager, Human Resources and Purchasing

Karin joined Local Motors team shortly after the company went into business and wears many "hats" including accounting, office manager, human resources and purchasing. Prior to Local Motors, Karin free-lanced with her own company providing accounting services for many different clients. She holds a degree from the University of New Hampshire in Environmental Science but got into accounting when she was living and working in Alaska. Her passion for cars started at age 9, when she got to sit in a Delorean prototype at a beach in New Jersey. Her first car was a 1974 Mustang II given to her by her dad, a former metallurgy engineer for Ford, who taught & expected her to change the oil, break pads, adjust the throttle, etc. When not at work (which is very rare), you can find her with her 3 children, Christian-16, Annika-14 and Lars-4, out on the islands in Buzzards Bay on her 27' Sea Ray, skiing or on her Suzuki GSXR-600.
de Peyer, Nyko - Community Liaison & Design

Nyko has always loved cars, ever since he was a small boy. He became very serious about car design around the age of 7 years old, and could often be found on the weekends building lego replicas of his favorite cars. Around the age of 12 he decided he was going to start his own car company some day and call it Harper Motors Corporation. Ironically, the logo he designed was incredibly similar to the Local Motors Logo. Nyko knew that in order to design cars he would have to have an international perspective, so at the age of 15 he studied abroad in Belgium to improve his French skills and learn about the Belgian culture. After finishing high school, he attended Lehigh University, and in the middle of his studies there, his 1 year studying abroad at the design school Creapole ESDI in Paris, France, turned into two years, at the end of which he received his certificate in transportation design. He returned in the fall of 2008 and finished up his senior year at Lehigh University, during which he spent most of his time designing and developing a vehicle and system designed specifically for the Red Cross and United Nations to be used in the immediate aftermath of natural disasters. The Global Rescue and Utility Vehicle (G.R.U.V. Project) won an award for it's presentation at Lehigh University and was nominated for an award for 'Best Safety Innovation' by Interior Motives magazine. In 2008, Nyko became a member of the Local-Motors online community in September 2008 and became heavily involved with the design community during spring of 2009, when he launched and several community-oriented projects including a Group Project as well the SketchWall Challenge. He is excited to continue working with the Local Motors community and building beautiful, innovative, environmentally friendly, COOL Cars!
Pisani, Mike - Vehicle Engineer

Before joining Local Motors, Mike worked in the R&D Engineering Department at Factory Five Racing, Inc., a component car company that designs and manufactures light weight sports cars that customers take home and build to completion. During Factory Five Racing's development of the GTM (a mid-engine supercar that has sold 200 units in the two years since its launch), Mike was an integral member of the GTM Design Team. After the GTM production launch, he served as the GTM Project Manager. While earning his degree at Northeastern University in Boston, MA (BSME, 2003), Mike held several cooperative education positions at such companies as Borg-Warner, GE (Aircraft Engines Division), Gillette, Velcro, and Z-KAT Inc. (a medical device start-up company in Hollywood, FL) covering several areas of engineering including but not limited to design, manufacturing, benchmarking and quality control systems.

Mike has a deep rooted passion for high performance and exotic automobiles, with a particular fondness for the "passione e legenda" behind the Ferrari mark. When not at work or cheering one of the many Boston area pro/collegiate teams (particularly the Red Sox) to victory, you can find him working on his restoration of a 1984 Chevy Stepside Pickup Truck which includes such modifications as a small block 350 (300 hp), lowered suspension, custom fuel cell, and custom paint/interior (coming soon!). He currently lives in Boston, MA.

Stokes, Sarah - CSO

sarah_profile

Sarah Stokes, CSO

Sarah is key to the Rally Fighter's introduction to the world - and loves it! She spends much of her time dreaming up ways to make her customer's build and ownership experience unforgettable. Her love for sales came early on...in fact, before turning 14, Sarah sold: the family piano (to avoid lessons), a tiny pickup (in danger of inheriting), and a new home (in lieu of building a fence for said home).

Sarah's first car, an orange '67 CJ5 with 5-point harnesses, permanently impressed upon her a desire to drive fun, cool vehicles. She is amassing a fleet of the classics including a Vespa, two Airstreams, and a pair of 150K+ mileage cars: an '89 Ford F150 and an '03 Accord; both of which take jumps that would impress the Duke boys. She is impatiently awaiting her own Rally Fighter Build Experience in 2010.

Sarah served in the United States Marine Corps, deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan as a Logistics Officer. She grew up in San Angelo, Texas where she began competing in triathlons at the age of nine and still enjoys the occasional trail run on foot. She recently discovered SCORE desert racing and really, really wants to navigate. Sarah previously worked as a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group and Trilogy Software.

Currently, Sarah serves on the board of directors of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Sarah and her husband, Kealoha a.k.a. 'Stokes', a US Marine infantry officer, live in 29 Palms, CA with their dog, Skillet.

She is not sure why she wrote all of this in the third person.
Thomas, Tim - CIO

Tim took an interest in technology early, already programming computer games at his high school where he grew up in Princeton, NJ. For over 20 years, Tim has applied his passion for innovation and technology to companies in industries from Travel and Music to Financial Services. In roles ranging from Programmer to Vice President, Tim has a 360 perspective of building cutting edge web sites and web communities, having overseen architecture and development for PaineWebber Properties, Smarter Living, essential.com, Berklee Media, and divorcepartner.com, a web-based organization that he founded and built on his own. He is responsible for a variety of technology-based innovations from smart interfaces that made computers accessible to technophobes to the concept that became the lucrative travel shopping meta-search site Booking Buddy. Tim's passion for vehicles pre-dated his love for technology, when he took every opportunity to drive anything with a motor as a child. An auto engineer at heart, Tim has rebuilt his own cars to varying degrees, and has completely disassembled and re-assembled one of his motorcycles. The car he loved owning the most was his first car, a Rabbit GTI, and the car he has enjoyed driving the most so far has been a BMW Z3. His dream cars have changed over the years, starting back in the 60s with the Jaguar e-type (XK-E) and 1968 SAAB Sonett II V4, and some day he still hopes to take a Ford GT and a Bugatti Veyron for a "quick" spin. At Local Motors, Tim combines his passions for cool cars, technology, innovation and building a totally new kind of business from the ground up.
