Thanks! Pretty quick turnaround! That was a fast clip... more like a runaround! Haha... yeah my opinion was verified... its the rear graphic. I really like the front, front fenders, canopy, LOVE the rear haunches/shoulders, the proportions overall, and the way the reflections move over all the above (courtesy of the walkaround). With that rear developed, I really think you'll have people droppin dough. Checkups? Awesome work. You're more than welcome for the words, I enjoy getting into the "why" of my opinions, its the least I can do after someone as yourself has dedicated this much time into a project. This site is a great platform for this! I've never been on a project that long for a project as complicated as a vehicle (tho I've recently "finished" a project that started two years ago in my final year at CCA). I notice the same with me, I'm in fact still training myself to stop designing long enough to focus on presentation consistency. I think it's common... trying to confine creative minds -- where ideas evolve and often the solutions along with them-- to deadlines. I guess we need these constraints in some degree to get these cars to the road!
CA, our most sincere apologies for the lightbox issue. We noticed it the moment that you uploaded it, and our team has been working it since that time. It actually works for our chief web architect on his machine, but not for others of us. It is likely a subtle bug with lightbox. We will keep working it until we can find a resolution, so that this does not happen again.
Here's your walkaround, B- it's not quite presentation quality- more of an evaluation tool- and it's a bit quick.. But here is is, since you asked for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36XRFMeIn7E
Brian- Thank you for your thoughts. I greatly appreciate the amount of detail you went into, as well as the completeness in description of your thought process. SO much more constructive than a simple "i like it.." ha. As far as your comments go, I completely agree. First- the rear quarter- I feel the silhouette and shape could have been more advanced, considering the more conservative nature compared to the front. Many have expressed this concern, and I feel it to be my next area of improvement. Furthermore, I agree with you that my taillamps are too small in relation to the rear. They simply became too small/ thin/ frail. Last year when I had the luck of interning at Design Center Potsdam, I spent 10 months refining ONE car proposal- with 10 hours a day not uncommon. In the end, I was still wanting to make small tweaks to details and surfaces to further advance the design. Further, I had professional modelers to help in this process; at times orchestrating a small team of 4 very skilled professionals, with the direction of 4 extremely experienced chiefs. Compare this scenario with this project (1 month) and you will begin to see the degree of my satisfaction with this project. Thanks again, Brian.
I completely agree about a design growing on you. Some things are a little too far out of people's comfort zones and it takes them some time to accept it. I think the z4 is a good example, as well as quite a few of the BMWs of late. Some people just were used to seeing pinched expressive surfaces but appreciate their beauty soon enough. This is a great project, Crisp. Because the images won't open up I can't see the project description/user profile, but your black sketch is really good and you've got a lot of 3d skills! The back view is very mean, and I love the split rear window. I LOVE the front graphic, from the vents to the headlights to the translucent engine cover, fantastic. I want one. Something about the 3/4 view is leaving me wanting more, but I can't really put my finger on what's not there or in excess if anything. I think I want the taillights to have more of a presence in the proportion to most of the exaggerated features of the car. I like the ideation sketch rear graphic that has the taillights in the same visual space as the rear vents. I'd love to take a real walk around this vehicle so it can fully grow on me like I want it to.
Aurel, you're right- the rear sketch has an uncanny resemblance to the CS's character- which is interesting that you point out, because I never really considered that car in my sketching. I suppose it's bold character has subconsciously burned a permanent impression in my design vocabulary... And no, my images don't open for me either.. I wonder why that is.. Thank you again, to everyone that gave me input on this project. It's been great to see everyone's different opinion (love/hate the front, etc) - I'm a big believer that good design is always met with confusion and discomfort at first... (z4, anyone?)
I don't understand why, but I never succeed in opening your pictures... It doesn't matter. That gave me the opportunity to know your own blog (a new good link in my bloglist) and your LM project at the same time ! I appreciate your work since I discovered one of your drawings (your avatar's one) on Sasha Selipanov' blog. What a nice style with subbtle... crisp angles ! Concerning Helio, I think that I prefer the rough of the front view to your final CAD (too "complex-graphic-techno style"). On the contrary, your main rear sketch was too BMW CS-inspired (even if I love this car !), while your 3D rear views are simply awesome. A real demonic identity ! Keep it up. ■ Aurel. PS : I scored a 46... really instructive test.
The black sketch is gorgeous, but the final models seem to have lost a little bit of that flavor. The models by themselves have a great characteristic to them. I like the twin rear glass windows.
Great work on the "face" of the vehicle. A theme is developing with the SJ, Elvira, and Helios all incorporating twin-grille features with a clean center area. Nice.
I love - LOVE - the rear half of this car. The window just behind the B-pillar reminds me of a similar feature found on some 67-69 Mustangs. The face of the rear of the vehicle is awesome. ...I'm not sure how I feel about having my rear view mirror obstructed, but it looks cool! I liked the front sketch a lot, but the front headlights went a little too far for my tastes on the model. Very good work.
very sexyyyy. pity some daytime 'in-situ' backdrops weren't created, it would have been lust at first sight
agreed on your black sketches. i love it! If you exaggerated the rear fender it would give even better stance. love your final front end too. it looks very hight tech. keep up the excellent work man.
Thanks, guys.. I appreciate all the positive comments... I wanted to infuse classic proportion with high-tech in the details. The development of the chassis and door openings hopefully will help convey that message- I've included a screenshot of the current logistics and chassis development.. It's 5:17AM and I can't sleep because the gears are turning...
Great sketches and great 3D model. The tail lights are little camaro-like, but it is good. Great proportions. Real muscle car. Good luck. Oh, I almost forgot. I like the rear windshield very much
shake n bake!! i like this car from the front and back! the side view is nice but not as appealing as the front and back view!
"Dear little bitty baby tiny Jesus" - Ricky Bobby Great work gents/CA. Incredible sketch and fantastic front and rear elements. The front reminds me of the Daniel Simon concept, but far more inspired for Miami. This is excellent Shake and Bake. So proud to have you as part of the community, hope you will keep up the comments once you are in DE.
Superb "faces" on the front and rear of this vehicle! I don't see as much unique character in the side and 3/4 views. Great design work... good luck in Germany!
Yeah - the black sketch is hot! The back end view is wicked mean. . Looks very "Mustang" in the 3D views. .
