Competition Description
Air Base Motors Competition
THE AIR BASE
A lonely road travels through the countryside, the vast landscape extends in every direction. As you approach the base, you see the shape of the tower, shimmering above the hot tarmac. Aerodynamic shapes with sharp wings seem to hover over the ground, on their landing gear.
The guys who live on the base are the very best at what they do, and they've earned the right to be here. They play hard, and work even harder. Nothing can break a pilot's focus when he suits up and climbs in his craft. Guys like this are called Yeager, Maverick, Iceman, and Stringfellow Hawk. They're individuals bound by excellence, but testing the limits.
The base usually has a bar with pool tables, a volleyball "beach", a lot of Jeeps and a few burly musclecars. Every now and then you hear a scream and a sonic boom, you look up and see a jettrail lacerating the giant sky.
VEHICLE INSPIRATION
Vehicles on the Air Base are built for a purpose and everything in their design expresses their Mission. These vehicles exude performance in whatever they do, and they attain the absolute maximum levels of capability. The F-22 is the fastest, deadliest fighter jet on the base, but a B-2 bomber carries maximum weaponry with maximum stealth. Old warbirds like the Mustang or Spitfire still get pure respect for their feats of bravery and daring.
Extreme capability comes from purity, even simplicity. Aerospace vehicles arrange their occupants in tandem seating formation for aerodynamic efficiency and feature long fuselage shapes with taut control surfaces. They carry advanced weaponry of all types, sometimes menacingly present, other times hidden from view.
These vehicles aren't built for "showrooms" and everyday consumers. They have coatings that help them do their job. Matte paints are sprayed in patterns that help them blend into their surroundings, bold numbers indicate their wing and squadron. Pin-up girls show that their pilots adore their planes. Shark, warthog, and tiger faces warn friends and foes of the dangerous capabilities of these vehicles and their pilots.
THE REQUIREMENTS
Four wheels, with a wide track for handling and stability.
Central seating position for one or two occupants. Like a cockpit.
