Competition Description
The Mission: Design the Cockpit for the Rally Fighter.
The theme of the Rally Fighter concept and its exterior styling was conceived over 250 days ago and has been being refined continually. Up until today, we have made scant suggestions as to the pilot's environment, but the time has come to put some shape into that space.
Now the excitement really begins!
This competition is being held to conceive of the operator's environment inside the Rally Fighter.
We will accept any idea that is worthy of the constraints and guiding principles below:
Simplicity
Exposed Mechanicals
Excitement
Function
All the controls you need... Nothing you don't.
Speaking of Controls,
- Following are the items that we have chosen and will include in the Rally Fighter. Should you choose to design with these items, your concept will be closer to reality. In the pictures to the side and the files for download, you will find these items that we plan to use in the Rally Fighter, please check back for future updates.
- Pilot's wheel with steering column.
- Pilot and co-pilot seat (perhaps like the one pictured, but many options are possible). Rare, unique and exotic seats are not encouraged as we will certainly choose something stylish but it must be available and functional.
- Next is a list of items that you should include in your design. These are requirements:
- Automatic Transmission selector consistent with those found in desert racing vehicles.
- Instrument Cluster for engine display and lights.
- NO IN-DASH DISPLAYS OR ELECTRONICS. Designated place to add peripherals is acceptable. (Garmin, Tom Tom, iPhone, Zuni, Sirius, XM, etc.).
- Accommodation for heat and A/C in the dash.
- Rear seating area must be consistent for two adults.
- Trunk is accessible over the back of the rear seat from the interior.
- The floor will be a dark color composite. Keep in mind that this floor will be structural. So please try to emphasize this characteristic.
- Exposed roll-cage is expected and encouraged in several places (roof, side, firewall, rear, etc.).
- Doors will be of standard opening type.
- Windows will descend with hand-crank.
- Call out room for toggle switches, electrical panels in the "peripherals" section (See the pictures to the side and/or the files for download).
- Easy clean of the interior.
Otherwise, the sky is the limit. Pilots... Start your engines.
