The Rally Fighter, designed by community member Sangho Kim is currently in open prototyping process. YOU are invited to participate.
Check this space for Rally Fighter updates in both design and engineering. We want to hear your thoughts, criticisms and input.
In the end, the Rally Fighter will be the result of Local Motors Community collaboration and will be one of the hottest vehicles to hit the dirt or the pavement.
Designed for the American Southwest, the Rally Fighter is a purpose-built Rally Racer with on-road chops. It has dual ride height capability, 18 inches of wheel travel, and a kickin, clean diesel engine.
The location of the first Local Motors Micro-Factory, and the home of the Rally Fighter, will be announced soon.

did BMW know about you before they designed the X6 ?? they should have...

Straight Hot. Himeji - White Heron Castle. This thing means business.

I would have called this a P-51, but it is just too wide and needs to be called a P-82, and why have one when you can have 2. Love the under-fuselage air-breather.
Needs some instructions to go along with it. Here's a thought.

Great concept! I love the engine placement and the color breakup... I can imagine this being a longer vehicle with bigger, off-road wheels. What if you took the styling away from BMW and toward American Aerospace?
sou-weeeet! This is really unique and definitely catches the eye. I want one!

Amazing Work, I love it

crazy...super hot man! love it!

thats nice! u have ne 3/4 views of this? the back looks really nice! altho reminds me more aston martin than bmw, but thats not a bad thing! nice work

Thanks for all the comments. I'm still on progress developing this design. I would be able to show you different views on this vehicle. stay tune!

deuxfov, thinking about this some more. Hope you still are working this. I don't mind the little details such as the 3 views not matching completely for now, but would like to know your thoughts on the attached comments/questions if you have some time to tell. I do agree with benzo about seeing this a little longer, I see this currently as a 100"(2500mm) wheelbase, but think it could be more like 120"(3000mm). If the wheels are bigger overall(more rubber less wheel for offroad, more wheel less rubber for onroad) this length would look in proportion I think. Kudos. You have authored an excellent concept.

Oh and 1 green thumb.

Love your design, man... here's a sketch on making it a bit more American aerospace-influenced. I made it bigger and added a little bit more of the P51/P82 in there!

This is magnificent work, a very sportive SUV, just love the design !!

Holy shneykies. Love the side view. The thing just looks freekishly awesome. I could do with a narrower trackwidth by 1/3 of a tire on each side. The "Z" behind upward and rearward of the front tires might be tough to execute in practice, but other than that... nothing to say but "wow".
Same sketch, with some juicy ad markers. I'll only post it once this time.

it might just be the colours, but it really reminds me of this lol

superb job! love the matt black finish near the rear tyres...gives it that ultimate concept look:) cool stuff!!

This is the warbird that put the USAF on the map. There is NOTHING more American or bangin' than the influence that this aircraft brings. Bubble canopy, ventral (belly) radiator, 440+mph, checkered flag nose, paintless skin (lower drag), high waist, "Glamorous Glennis", need I say more.

Oh and perhaps this element of surprise.

The direction of this conversation is taking my mind to where airplanes were reallyyyy influencing race car forms... Grand Prix beginnings and those days.

Ahh I'd already had inspiration for another idea for the Miami Road Racer, but now I'm getting an ITCH for a real airplane-souled concept!! Sketch time!

super nice design. my favorite part is the rear treatment that looks so sweet in the side view.

That is what i call the M X 66 and a half. Lovely styling

I want to see how you develop this design! Where r u?

NICE.... careful Ben - I'm sure he's got some nice shots of you too. Truly, can't wait to see more of this design.

come to my second direction.

I LOOOOOVE the front view of the car!!! Rear view makes me wonder how easy to see out of rear window. Side view...hmmm...would like to see it longer, not crazy about the fenders over rear tires - beach buggy like (I like beach buggies but not crazy about the look on this car...and, to be honest, I am having a hard time seeing a guy driving the car, but only from the side view. Really like the front view!!!

I'd commented on this earlier today, but I think it was before the check-up makeovers.
It was something to the extent of: This is quite different from the previous versions (which I loved) but WOW this really screams of it's inspiration! The intent is clear... and I just noticed that you made the headlight space larger and put some lamp indicators, vurry niiice. The graphics in the rendering look hot as opposed to cheesy (as they easily could be)... and there can be some BEAUTIFUL surfacing details to come out of this if it were to be built! |
Also, extra points for taking inspiration from such flowing round shapes and making it very muscular and aggressive! So far a great looking vehicle, more views please!
I would like this better if the front wheels were lopped off. Love the body inspiration -- headlights and grill look very sports-car-esque, but I'm having trouble "seeing it" for an SUV. Maybe I'll come around.
Agreed with WIKID that it is not an SUV. That is a good thing, because "SUV" has become a watered-down class of vehicles. Sharing this title with the latest Chevy Blazer and Ford Explorer is nowhere that this vehicle belongs. It deserves its own class of American rally, lightwieght, off-road, fighter! Best thing to do is to change the title and keep developing the design. One big green thumb. Love the lights. Side vents should have pipes and the nose is perhaps too pointy. Freeing the fender line on the top of the vehicle so that it does not have to meet the A-pillar but still keeping with its great long shape could define a fuselage on either side of the hood. Like the side view mirror shape, but maybe place higher like the ones in version 1. This thing could rally with the high ride height and give Colin McRae's legend a run for its money, American style. BRAVO. (love the "kills" marked on the hood, great detail).
Though clearly different this fighter might be allowed to race in the same class as an American rally. Hommage to the Stratos.

Love this one!

This is going in a VERY interesting direction. The high side view mirrors....ROCK, great change since the last iteration. The lights and exposed mechanicals through the front fender are very cool. Fenders (especially rear) are sumptuous as is the windshield. You might thicken the canopy center stripe to mimic the size of the blue hood stripe graphic. I think that the side pipes could play a bigger role still. My ONLY criticism is that the snout is not the right reference to P-51. My suggestion is to let the fenders do the work like a P-82 and let the radiator opening take on less prominence. Lights will be an interesting question as to whether they stay in the fenders or move into the radiator opening. I could see either....how about 5-6 Hella's in the front between the fenders, that would solve it, eh? GREAT GREAT work.

Thats my kind of ride. Fabulous progression in the design direction, excellent.

I'll hit you back with a photoshop sketch today.. I think the fenders need more definition. Also, some further development of "wing" like surfaces on the vehicle, in addition to "fuselage" areas, need to be developed. Watch this space.
The iterations really show an improvement in all facets of the design -- good job! I love love love the rims: do those exist somewhere or would it have to be a new rim design?
Not so hot on the Dallas Cowboys star on the hood, byt to each their own I guess |

A little aston-martin up top; but its definitely different. Looking at that scoop & the way the pillars/roofline line up, where is the doorline looking to be on the rear side? It looks confused, honestly; doesn't know whether to be a jet, a car or a boat.. defnitely unique though.
love this one. I think the underside is a bit busy and the front vent cutting uncomfortably close to the wheel well, but overall love it.

GRINDHOUSE, yellow, Deuxfov, this is fantastic progression. It is such a trip to see where you are going. I love the new exhaust ventricle.....and oh yeh the side mirrors are going back up. 1 big up arrow. May be able to do a little more development with the gray rear quarter panel...too vertical perhaps.
Thanks for the comment jrogers...your crit always very helpful...After I read your comments, I see it differently..thanks all the time...

slight change with gray rear quarter panel

I really love how this design is evolving. I thin that the orange sketch is the best. But I have to ask how are the occupants going to get inside, the car seems very high and people would have some dificutly getting in the car, maybe you should make a step that slides out from underneath.
So where are those gatling guns going to sit? |
